Lightning Arresters
A lightning arrester is a device that protects electrical facilities such as power plants and power transmission lines from abnormal voltage and lightning. When an abnormal voltage load is applied, such as a strong lightning shock or a switching surge that occurs when the circuit breaker opens and closes, the surge arrester starts discharging and discharges abnormal charges to the ground. Since lightning strikes cause overvoltage and overcurrent in response to an impact, the presence of a lightning arrester can avoid adverse effects on electrical equipment. Lightning arresters include gap arresters and gapless arresters.
